TPG’s Employee Benefits Consultant Mark Mills entered the insurance business in 1988 as a sales consultant for one of the nation’s largest insurance brokerage firms. He spent 15 years as an employee benefits consultant and manager of two Fortune 500 insurance companies before joining The Partners Group in 2004. Mark is an Oregon native and graduate of Oregon State University with a BS in business administration. When not at work, he enjoys fitness training and spending time with his family.
We talked with him a little bit about his time here at The Partners Group.
Mark, what do you remember from Day 1 at TPG?
I remember [company co-founder] Rod Cruickshank greeting me and telling me, “Congratulations, you just started the last job you will ever need.” So far, like most things, he’s been right.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned since joining TPG?
Always put the client first, and everything else will take care of itself.
If you weren’t at TPG in employee benefits, what would your dream job be?
Football coach.
What’s the TPG core value that currently resonates most strongly with you? (Play Well with Others, Own It, Be a Champion, Have Fun and Live Well, Be Curious)
Wow, that is a hard one because they all resonate and are very close to how I prefer to live. I always try to Play Well with Others (I’m sure some may disagree); Own It is very important to me; I always try to Be a Champion for my clients; Have Fun and Live Well (that’s an easy one); Be Curious (it’s why I listen to a lot of podcasts on a lot of different subjects).
What’s one word you’d use to describe your past 20 years at TPG?
Great. It’s truly enjoyable to work with so many people whom I very much respect and admire.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you to everyone at TPG for making this journey so great . . . and it’s not even over yet. 😊
Thanks for the past 20 years, Mark. Congratulations from all your friends and colleagues at TPG.
